Dear Senior Committee,

Many lives have been changed by America's ongoing recession. Families are losing their houses, children are going to bed hungry, and areas in the community continue to experience cuts in funds. Even larger percentages of people are unemployed. I have never been in a situation where I had to go to bed hungry, or lose my home, but I understand the fear of losing my home. Three years ago my father lost his job and was unemployed for a year, and if it wasn't for the help from the government, we would have lost our home, and we would have gone hungry. I believe it is very important to help people in need to the best of our ability, because we need to be there for each other. I want to put together a community dinner in City Heights, where I live.

My community dinner would take place sometime in April, because during the holidays is when most organization feed the poor, but then little is provided during the rest of the year. So I want my meal to be an after holiday meal. The dinner is going to be held at Fairmount Community Church where my church is held on a Saturday. My mentor is going to be Chris Domingo who is in control of Food and Raiment at my church. I will be in control of all the planning for this event with the help from Mr. Domingo. My audience is going to be to the hungry of City Heights. We are expecting to feed over 300 people.

I want to learn about the people I am feeding. I will be researching through books, the Internet, and most importantly through the people who walk through the door. I want to learn how hard it is, why it happens, and I want to help.

Sincerely,

Amber Lovell
